From humble beginnings to the Midland Football League — the story of Birmingham United FC and the community that built it.
Birmingham United Football Club was established in 1992 as a Sunday league team under the name Spar Barnt Green, joining Division One of the Bromsgrove & District League. In their very first season, the club won the Gordon Bridgwater Cup and the LMS Shield — setting the tone for a club that has always punched above its weight.
In 1997 the club joined the Midland Combination as Barnt Green Spartak, steadily climbing through the divisions. They won Division Two in 2002–03 and Division One the following season, earning promotion to the Premier Division. They claimed the Worcestershire Senior Urn in 2006–07, defeating Alvechurch 2–1 in the final. After a period away from football, the club was re-established in 2012, won the Midland Combination Division Two in 2012–13, and continued its upward trajectory.
In February 2023, the club was renamed Birmingham United — a name that reflects both its ambitions and its identity. The club now competes in Midland League Division Two, finishing 3rd of 15 in the 2024–25 season, and is based at Castle Vale Stadium in Birmingham. The journey from a Sunday league side in a Worcestershire village to a growing force in non-league football is a story of resilience, community and relentless ambition.
